Indonesia’s New President Aims for Temasek-Style Investment Agency
This proposed agency would consolidate scattered government investments and leverage them for greater economic impact, according to Hadad, the official appointed to lead the initiative. Currently, state-owned enterprises, including those in vital sectors like banking, telecommunications, construction, and mining, are managed by the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry.
“The intention is so that investments that are scattered can be consolidated and can be leveraged,” Hadad said, emphasizing the agency’s potential to create synergies and maximize returns.
During his election campaign, Prabowo had indicated openness to privatizing non-strategic state firms, suggesting a broader vision for fostering private sector participation in the economy.
Prabowo Builds a Powerhouse Economic Team
Adding to the excitement, Prabowo has assembled a formidable team of economic experts. Mari Elka Pangestu, former World Bank managing director, has been appointed as his special envoy on trade. Luhut Pandjaitan, the previous chief investment minister, will serve as an advisor on government digitalization.

Recognizing the importance of continuity, Prabowo has retained many key economic ministers from his predecessor’s cabinet, including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Chief Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto. This strategic move is expected to ensure policy stability and attract investor confidence.
Brian Lee, an economist with Maybank Investment Banking Group, noted, “Prabowo’s experienced economic team provides a significant boost to investor confidence, setting a solid foundation for sound and prudent policymaking.”
A New Era for Indonesian Investment
Investors are eagerly anticipating Prabowo’s concrete plans to improve the investment climate and streamline bureaucratic procedures. His ambitious agenda, including the establishment of the Temasek-inspired agency, signals a new era of economic transformation for Indonesia.
Investors are keeping a close watch as Prabowo and his team implement their vision, looking for signs of progress in attracting foreign investment and boosting domestic growth. The coming months will be pivotal in shaping Indonesia’s economic future.
