Predicting NFL Sack Leaders
When forecasting individual sack totals, one team-wide characteristic to consider is offensive scoring potential. Squads that consistently score points will likely force their opponents to pass more, leading to increased pass-rush opportunities for the defense. Another factor is how sacks are distributed within a defense. Teams historically reliant on a single dominant pass rusher are more likely to produce an individual leader in this category than teams that share the responsibility. Such as, the Broncos led the NFL with 63 sacks last season, but also had six different defenders record five or more sacks, preventing any single player from emerging as a clear leader. Last season, the Lions boasted the NFL’s top-scoring offense, and Aidan Hutchinson was undeniably their best pass rusher, finishing with 7.5 sacks despite missing five games due to a broken leg. now healthy, he remains Detroit’s most capable quarterback chaser. He will face important expectations, and my model predicts he will deliver – achieving 15-plus sacks in 57 percent of simulations.
