Quantum Surgical Acquires NeuWave, Forming Precision IO Group to Advance Robotic Cancer Treatment

Miami, Florida and Montpellier, France – February 24, 2026 – Quantum Surgical, a leader in minimally invasive robotic-assisted cancer treatment, has completed the acquisition of NeuWave Medical, Inc., a developer of microwave ablation technology. The move establishes Precision IO Group Inc., a new parent company poised to develop into a significant player in the interventional radiology industry.

Strategic Acquisition and New Leadership

The acquisition provides Quantum Surgical with NeuWave’s intellectual property, brands, product registrations, manufacturing capabilities, operations, and inventory. NeuWave was previously acquired by Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon a decade ago. Both Quantum Surgical and NeuWave will operate as subsidiaries under the Precision IO Group umbrella, led by newly appointed CEO Kurt Azarbarzin.

Azarbarzin brings extensive experience in surgical robotics, having previously served as CEO of EndoQuest Robotics and leading the Verb Surgical venture – a collaboration between Johnson & Johnson and Google. He also held a position as a partner at Frazier Healthcare Partners, advising and supporting high-growth healthcare companies.

Focus on Robotic-Assisted Tumor Ablation

Quantum Surgical’s core technology is the Epione® robotic-assisted percutaneous ablation system. Epione utilizes a robotic arm, navigation system, and camera to precisely insert a needle through the skin to destroy tumors. The acquisition of NeuWave, known for its clinically proven microwave ablation technology, supports Quantum Surgical’s strategy to expand access to robotic-assisted tumor ablation treatments and reduce cancer mortality.

NeuWave’s ablation technology offers a physician-friendly workflow for percutaneous ablations and can be used independently or in conjunction with other therapies to improve patient outcomes. Epione currently holds CE mark approval for abdominal, chest, and musculoskeletal structures, as well as FDA clearance for abdominal ablation indications.

Precision IO and the Future of Interventional Oncology

Precision IO Group aims to be a leader in the interventional radiology industry, with a strong emphasis on precision and remote procedures. The group is actively involved in a €23.9 million European project, PreciseOnco, a public-private partnership co-funded by the EU’s Innovative Health Initiative (IHI). This research consortium will integrate advanced medical imaging, robotic guidance technologies, and artificial intelligence to standardize and enhance the precision of minimally invasive cancer treatments. The five-year program includes five clinical studies to validate the technical solutions.

A key focus for Precision IO is expanding access to robotic-assisted percutaneous procedures through remote interventions. The company intends to leverage world-renowned experts for remote trajectory planning and results assessment, utilizing Epione tools. According to the companies, remote interventions will benefit both patients and physicians, allowing greater access to specialized care and facilitating collaboration among specialists worldwide.

“I am excited and honored to join Precision IO Group Inc. As CEO,” said Azarbarzin. “Quantum Surgical and NeuWave Medical, Inc. Are highly complementary and share an incredible vision for the future… I believe that their technologies, both independently and combined, have the potential to position us as leaders of the industry, and to transform cancer care on a global scale.”

European Conference on Interventional Oncology 2026

Quantum Surgical will be present at the European Conference on Interventional Oncology (ECIO) 2026, held in Basel, Switzerland, from April 26-30, 2026. The company will host a satellite symposium and a hands-on workshop focused on tumor ablation confirmation software.
