Ready or Not 2: Here I Come – A Bloody Good Sequel

Following its premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW), reviews are emerging for Searchlight Pictures’ Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which arrives in theaters this week. The sequel reunites director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett with Samara Weaving, reprising her role in the follow-up to the 2019 horror-comedy hit.

Critical Reception

As of March 15, 2026, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come holds an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, slightly below the 89% achieved by the original film. Its Metacritic score is 61/100, also a slight dip from the first film’s 64/100.

Here’s a sampling of critical opinions:

  • Glenn Garner, Deadline: “This action-packed, blood-soaked sequel is just what fans have been waiting for the past seven years, hopefully paving the way for a trilogy in this sinister world Radio Silence has created.”
  • Sarah Campbell, Nerdist: “Nothing about [the original] necessarily posed the necessitate for a continuation. But if they want to give it to us? Hey, I’m not complaining. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is every bit the blood-soaked sequel we wanted.”
  • Samantha Nelson, Polygon: “Even as there aren’t as many big laughs or surprises as the first film, Ready or Not 2 has some incredible moments… But if Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett send Grace on a third killing spree, hopefully they’ll build it a bit more focused.”
  • Harry Stainer, Empire Magazine: “Round two’s double-or-nothing approach means there are fewer surprises this time around. Yet as Weaving’s endlessly watchable bride gets even bloodier, it’s hard not to crack a smile at the relentless fun.”
  • Andy Crump, AV Club: “Weaving is great at expressing helpless surrender and whiteknuckle petrification… The effect of her performances is cathartic, frequently hysterical, and key to Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come’s success.”
  • Megan Navarro, Bloody Disgusting: “More is more in Ready or Not 2. Bigger stakes, larger playing field, a higher (and more gruesome) body count, and even double the protagonists. All designed to deliver maximum crowd-pleasing fun.”
  • Robert Daniels, Screen: “More bloody and gratuitously violent than the 2019 original, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come delivers short-term thrills in an emotionally hollow gore fest.”
  • Chase Hutchinson, Indiewire: “All you’re left with is the echo of what was better before. You watch only able to wish Weaving was given more to work with than this, or, at the very least, greater room for her iconic scream to rattle you once more.”

The Plot Thickens

The sequel picks up immediately after the events of the first film, with Grace MacCaullay (Samara Weaving) having defeated the Le Domas family. This victory triggers a new, even more dangerous stage: “double or nothing.” Members of several powerful, wealthy families must now compete in a new game against Grace, with the ultimate prize being control of the world.

Cast and Crew

Alongside Samara Weaving, the film stars Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, Olivia Cheng, David Cronenberg, and Elijah Wood. Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy penned the script, and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Radio Silence) directed.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come opens in cinemas on March 20th.
