Metropolitan Area Planning Council Announces Opening for Regional Housing and Land Use Planner II
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), the regional planning agency serving Greater Boston’s 101 cities and towns, is seeking a Regional Housing and Land Use Planner II to join its Housing Division within the Land Use Department. The position offers a salary range of $74,000 to $84,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.
Role and Responsibilities
The Planner II will focus on advancing equity and creating thriving communities through housing initiatives. Key responsibilities include managing and contributing to a diverse range of projects, such as municipal housing plans, housing elements of comprehensive plans, policy and research projects, and zoning initiatives. The role requires skills in data collection and analysis, knowledge of state housing policy and programs, understanding of zoning regulations, and experience with displacement risk and mitigation strategies. Community engagement is too a critical component of the position.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in urban/regional planning, economic development, affordable housing, real estate development, public policy/management, urban design/architecture, or a closely related field, along with at least two years of relevant job experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in a similar field combined with at least three years of professional experience will be considered. Familiarity with both market rate and affordable housing development and administration is considered a plus.
