Sean Payton: Broncos’ Win Over Panthers “Not That Impressive”
Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton isn’t letting his team get ahead of themselves after their 28-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Immediately after the game, Payton downplayed the offensive performance, stating it was less about the Broncos’ success and more about the Panthers’ struggles.
“I said this, it’s not a good offense we played. It’s just the truth. So we expected that, and we’re going to see a lot better teams,” Payton said, via Joe Person of TheAthletic.com.
Payton’s direct assessment of the Panthers’ offensive capabilities surprised some, as NFL coaches often try to avoid inflammatory statements that could be perceived as bulletin-board material. However, Payton’s bold words reflect the low expectations surrounding the Panthers and a sense of confidence that his team, the Broncos, will face tougher challenges in the future.
