Seventh Wonder Announces Mattias Olofsson as New Vocalist and Previews Upcoming Album with ‘Eternal Flame’ Cover
Swedish progressive metal band Seventh Wonder has announced Mattias Olofsson, formerly of Grand, as their new vocalist. The band simultaneously released a cover of Europe’s “Eternal Flame” as a first taste of their forthcoming seventh studio album, slated for release via Frontiers Music SRL.
A New Chapter for Seventh Wonder
Bass player Andreas Blomqvist, a founding member of Seventh Wonder, stated the band took their time in finding a replacement for Tommy Karevik. “Seventh Wonder is finally back with a new voice on the microphone,” Blomqvist announced. “Those who have known us through the years know that we perform slowly and, in order to avoid delaying the album, we opted for a cover song to introduce Mattias to the world.”
Blomqvist emphasized the band’s excitement about exploring new musical territories with Olofsson. “We are excited to go to new places where we haven’t ventured before as Mattias will put his mark on the band’s sound. Super excited for 2026!”
‘Eternal Flame’ – A Nod to the Band’s Roots
The chosen cover, “Eternal Flame,” originally appeared on Europe guitarist Jon Norum’s 1987 album, Total Control, and was co-written and performed by Marcel Jacob, who also briefly played bass for Europe and founded Talisman. Blomqvist explained the significance of the song, noting that Norum and Jacob were influential in the early stages of Seventh Wonder’s formation.
“John Norum and Marcel Jacob…have been highly important in shaping the origins of Seventh Wonder and we thought a little modified version of this ’80s rocker would be a fun way to say ‘Hello, World!’,” Blomqvist said. The band hopes fans enjoy the cover while they finalize the new album.
Band History
Seventh Wonder was formed in 2000 in Stockholm by Andreas Blomqvist (bass), Johan Liefvendahl (guitar), and Johnny Sandin (drums). Keyboardist Andreas ‘Kyrt’ Söderin joined later that year. The band’s debut album, Become, was released in 2005 on Lion Music, featuring Andi Kravljaca on vocals. Kravljaca was subsequently replaced by Tommy Karevik, leading to the release of Waiting In The Wings (2006), Mercy Falls (2008), and The Great Escape (2010).
Drummer Johnny Sandin departed, with Stefan Norgren taking his place for the 2016 live album Welcome To Atlanta, as well as Tiara (2018) and The Testament (2022). Karevik left after the tour supporting The Testament, leading to the search for a new vocalist that culminated in the arrival of Mattias Olofsson.
