Hard Techno Scene Rocked by Allegations Against Shlømo, CARV, Odymel, and Basswell
The hard techno music community is grappling with serious allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse of power leveled against several prominent DJs: Shlømo, CARV, Odymel, and Basswell. The accusations, initially surfacing through an Instagram account reportedly belonging to a former Steer Management employee, have led to widespread cancellations of performances and a wave of artists severing ties with the agency.
Allegations and Initial Responses
The allegations encompass a range of misconduct, including sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, soliciting children, misogyny, and the sharing of unsolicited intimate images. DJ Carv admitted to sending intimate images to women despite being married, but denies any criminal wrongdoing. Shlømo has dismissed the accusations as a “campaign of slander and defamation,” threatening legal action. Odymel claimed any unwanted advances occurred during “somnabulism” (sleepwalking), stating he has no recollection of the events. Basswell has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
Festival and Promoter Cancellations
In the wake of the accusations, numerous festivals and promoters have taken swift action. Dutch festivals Verknipt and Awakenings have cancelled performances by Shlømo, Basswell, and CARV. Shlømo and Basswell were as well removed from the lineup of Germany’s Open Beatz Festival. Further cancellations include Basswell’s gigs at Berlin’s OST club and São Paulo’s Under Division, and Odymel’s performance at Australia’s Pitch Music & Arts festival. Indian promoter Subvolt cancelled Shlømo’s Mumbai performance, and Marseille festival Le Bon Air followed suit.
Steer Management’s Response and Artist Departures
Steer Management initially confirmed the suspension of multiple artists on its roster but did not specify names. However, several artists signed to the agency, including William Luck, 6EJOU, ECZODIA, Onlynumbers and Natte Visstick, have since publicly announced their departure. William Luck stated the decision was made to protect those within the scene from “dangerous or inappropriate behaviour.”
Community Reaction and Calls for Change
The allegations have sparked significant discussion within the hard techno community. Cera Khin emphasized the need to capture accusations seriously and prioritize safety. Airod expressed support for those affected, and Rebekah, a long-time advocate against sexual assault and harassment, called for “zero-tolerance policies” across the scene, stating that little change has been seen in 30 years of her career.
Ongoing Investigation
As of February 25, 2026, the allegations remain unverified, and investigations are ongoing. The situation continues to unfold, with the hard techno community closely watching for further developments and demanding accountability.
