Škoda Museum Unveils ‘Concepts Unmasked’ Depository, Showcasing Decades of Automotive Innovation
Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic – On March 19, 2026, Škoda Auto expanded its museum offerings with the opening of ‘Concepts Unmasked,’ a new depository space presenting a curated collection of the brand’s prototypes, design studies, and concepts from the late 1950s to the present day.1 This follows the December 2025 launch of the ‘Sleeping Beauties’ hall, adding over 50 exhibits to the main Škoda Museum.
A Glimpse Behind the Curtain of Automotive Design
Located within a historic factory hall dating back to 1913, ‘Concepts Unmasked’ offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the creative process behind Škoda’s vehicles.2 The exhibition features 31 vehicles, many previously unseen by the public, and highlights the ambition to shape the future of the Czech car manufacturer.1 Visits are by prior reservation and guided tour only.
Highlights from the ‘Concepts Unmasked’ Collection
The depository showcases a diverse range of Škoda’s design explorations, categorized into several groups:
- Pioneering Concepts: Including the 1956 Škoda 976 prototype, notable for its front-wheel drive, and unrealized variations of the iconic Favorit.2
- Design Icons: Featuring elegant studies like the 2002 Škoda Tudor sports coupé and the visionary 2006 Joyster.2
- Forerunners of Current Models: Showcasing the Vision S (2016) and Vision X (2018) studies, which paved the way for the Kodiaq and Kamiq models.2
- Visions of the Future: Presenting the 2023 Modern Solid Compact sculptural model, a precursor to the Škoda Epiq electric car.2
Beyond the Showroom: Unique Prototypes on Display
The collection extends beyond mainstream concepts, including intriguing prototypes such as a pink prototype of the Favorit Fun, a Škoda Forman with a sixteen-seat OHC engine and leather interior, and a station wagon version of the 1000 MB, nicknamed “Hajaja.”1 Other notable exhibits include the Škoda 720, a prototype from the 1970s, and various iterations of the 760 series developed in collaboration with East German manufacturers.1
Interactive Experience and Future Updates
Each exhibit is accompanied by a brief description, with further details accessible via QR code.1 The display will be periodically refreshed, with the museum holding a collection of approximately ten to twelve additional prototypes.1
Admission to both ‘Concepts Unmasked’ and ‘Sleeping Beauties’ costs 200 Czech crowns in addition to regular museum entry fees.1
