Ján Volko and Agáta Cellerová Crowned Slovak Champions at 60th Indoor Athletics Championships

Ostrava, Czech Republic – Ján Volko secured his ninth national title in the 60m sprint at the 60th Indoor Slovak Championships held in Ostrava, clocking a time of 6.74 seconds. Agáta Cellerová too claimed gold in the women’s 60m, though her victory was marked by an unfortunate injury.

Volko Continues Dominance

The 29-year-old Ján Volko, a seasoned competitor with a complete medal collection from the European Indoor Championships, improved upon his season’s best by 0.01 seconds to win the 60m title. His championship record stands at 6.60 seconds, with a personal best of 6.55 seconds. “It came at the right moment. My performance may not be as good as I would like and expect, but every title counts,” Volko stated to the Slovak Athletics Federation’s official website. “It’s great for the level, attractiveness and future of Slovak athletics that such competition is emerging. The young guns help me identify motivation, even though ultimately it’s up to me what I do in preparation and in competitions.”

Cellerová’s Victory and Injury

Agáta Cellerová surprised the favorites to win the women’s 60m, finishing in a time of 7.43 seconds. However, her celebration was cut short as she stumbled and twisted her left knee while attempting to leisurely down after crossing the finish line. She accepted her first senior indoor medal – and a gold one at that – while seated.

“Everything happened very quickly. I didn’t expect the win at all and was thrilled by it. I had a feeling I was first, but only after the finish line did I believe it was first place. Then I didn’t quite manage to brake properly, and I don’t even understand what happened, but I think I twisted my knee. It came back immediately, but it hurt. I thank my coaches, who are always there for me, for this success,” Cellerová said, as reported by atletika.sk.
