Indonesia Reasserts Strong Support for Palestinians at BRICS Summit

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with Hussein Al Sheikh, Secretary General of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, on the sidelines of the BRICS Plus Summit in Kazan, Russia on October 23-24, 2024. The meeting served to reaffirm Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom.

Commitment on the Front Line of Indonesian Diplomacy

“I will make sure that the Palestinian issue will always be on the front line of Indonesian diplomacy and we will continue to stand together with the people of Palestine,” Sugiono stated, as quoted on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

This commitment was echoed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in his inauguration speech on October 20, 2024, further solidifying Indonesia’s stance on the issue.

Three Key Points of Indonesian Support

During the meeting, Minister Sugiono outlined three key areas of Indonesian support for Palestine:

• **Political Support:** Indonesia reiterated its political support for Palestine, including continued advocacy for a permanent ceasefire and other peace efforts aimed at achieving a two-state solution.
• **Humanitarian Aid:** Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to providing humanitarian aid to Palestine, both through bilateral channels and via United Nations bodies such as UNRWA and the ILO.
• Collective Action:** Indonesia emphasized the importance of collective efforts from the international community to foster peace and stability in the Middle East region.
