Tasracing Dismisses Chief Steward After just Weeks on the Job
Tasracing has terminated the employment of its newly appointed chief thoroughbred steward due to “conduct-related matters.” This action occurred a mere few days after the official began their role.
The racing authority removed the steward following an incident at Spreyton racecourse, near Devonport, on September 21st. However, Tasracing is remaining tight-lipped about the specifics, citing privacy concerns surrounding employment issues.
The publicly funded organization hasn’t revealed the former chief steward’s identity, nor the nature of the conduct that led to their dismissal. This decision comes only three weeks after they started on September 15th.
In a statement released Monday afternoon, Tasracing confirmed the termination was due to conduct-related matters. “The decision follows an extensive examination by tasracing,” the statement read.
Tasracing maintains a strict code of conduct for all employees, outlining expected standards of behavior. The authority says it thoroughly investigates any potential breaches of this code.
The steward was working on adjudicating thoroughbred races when the incident occurred.
Tasracing has not indicated if the investigation will lead to further action or changes in procedures. The authority is now actively seeking a replacement for the position.
