In 1971, the Tetra Pak group decided to install an industrial production site in Longvic, on a 22 hectare plot. This site, based in the Dijon agglomeration, is responsible for producing the cardboard packaging material. As a reminder, Tetra Pak is the inventor of the packaging food brick in 1959 and the Berlingot in 1952.## Tetra Pak in Dijon: From Industrial Powerhouse to Potential Closure
For decades, the Tetra Pak factory in Longvic, near Dijon, has been a meaningful economic force in the region. the site has a rich history, having produced over four billion packaging units for both French and international markets and employing a thousand workers over its lifetime. At its peak in the early 2000s, the factory provided jobs for up to 360 people.
### 2012: A Reorganization of the Site
In 2012, management initiated a reorganization of production to align with a new rolling mill. This lead to a determination that the dijon facility was operating with excess capacity. A plan was put in place to reduce the workforce from 340 to 270 employees over three years, without a formal social plan. This number was later revised downward a year into the process.
### January 21, 2025: The Announcement of a Potential Closure
A shockwave hit Longvic on January 21st when Tetra pak announced the potential closure of its Dijon site. An facts procedure was instantly launched,placing 207 jobs at risk.Management cited “lower volumes and the increase in costs” as the primary reasons for considering the cessation of activities. April 11: Gathering in front of the headquarters in Switzerland
A hundred employees went to the group headquarters in Lausanne in Switzerland, to try to save their posts. “I have arrived in the business for 35 years. It’s a big family”says Philippe Chaix, employee of the box. “Many colleagues were there as the company’s creation in 1971. This large family is highly likely to stop, and it’s a shame.”

May 1: Tetra Pak employees parade in Dijon with a coffin
For the May 1 rally,between 1,500 and 2,000 people paraded in the streets of Dijon. June 27,2025: François Rebsamen in front of the factory with employees
François Rebsamen,Minister of Spatial Planning and Decentralization,is present in front of the grids of the Tetra Pak factory in longvic (Côte-d’or) to exchange with employees and provide them with support. “The director of the paper mills asked to meet me, but I do not discuss with someone who only does the intermediary. I want to chat directly with the decision -makers. We will be present to accompany you and continue the discussions” says the former mayor of Dijon.
Tetra Pak in Longvic: The Closure of the Factory and the Safeguarding of Jobs
For employees, they will receive their wages for 12 to 18 months while being supported in their job search by a cell and training actions. “We had to play with the supports to force the management, I deplore this for colleagues who are for some,” says Claude Rollandet, CGT delegate.
July 24: the job safeguard plan voted
The 207 employees of Tetra Pak vote the agreement concerning the social measures of the employment safeguard plan (PSE). A plan validated by the majority. 167 vote for, 17 vote against. “It had lasted for too long. We went thru all the stages: hope, despair, anxiety, anger, ready to type. It was time to find an agreement,” admit employees.
July 28: The signed agreement
The agreement is signed by the inter-union of the Tetra Pak factory. the 207 jobs will indeed be deleted, but departure conditions “Interesting” were obtained. “Not a victory” according to the CGT delegate Claude Rollandet,“But we limited the breakage by obtaining interesting things about the social.”
Renault Longvic Factory Dismantling to Continue Until March 2025
All employees affected by the closure of the Renault Longvic factory in France have now received their relocation packages, with delivery completed by the weekend.While the main operations at the site have ceased, a team of 24 employees will remain on-site until March 2025 to oversee the complete dismantling of the factory.
