The Dangers of the disney Princess Diet
The “Disney Princess Diet” is going viral again, despite being an extreme and unbalanced method like eating only apples or drinking water all day. Nutritionists warn that these practices can cause dehydration, hypoglycemia, and long-term damage, including the risk of developing eating disorders.
Once again, a restrictive and risky diet has gone viral, with the potential to cause eating disorders. This is the “Disney Princess Diet,” which is based on characters from animated films.
Specifically, it consists of a number of days where a person’s food intake is persistent by the princess in question. Such as, on the day of Snow White, you can only eat apples; on the day of Ariel, you can only drink water; on the day of Sleeping Beauty (Aurora), you can eat anything but only in three bites; and with Elsa, it’s only water and ice, among othre princesses.
Cecilia Sepúlveda, an academic from the school of Nutrition at Universidad mayor, told The Clinic that “as these are restrictive and wholly unbalanced diets, the appearance of adverse effects such as hypoglycemia, hypotension, dehydration, headaches, mood changes, lack of energy, sleep disturbances, and decreased concentration is expected.“
“Over time, more serious consequences may occur, such as loss of muscle mass, weakening of the immune system, decreased libido, hair loss, skin changes, blood circulation problems, difficulty regulating body temperature, in addition to increasing the risk of developing an eating disorder. In the case of women, these diets can cause amenorrhea (absence of menstruation),” she warns.
