Alžbeta Štrkulová: A Pioneering Beauty Queen and Media Personality
Alžbeta Štrkulová, who represented Czechoslovakia in the inaugural international beauty pageants for her nation, celebrated her 80th birthday in 2024. Her sixth-place finish at the 1967 Miss World competition in London marked a meaningful moment for Czechoslovakian representation on the global stage. Štrkulová, later known as Alžbeta Šebová following her marriage, enjoyed a diverse career beyond her pageant success, encompassing acting roles in film and television, culminating in her hosting duties at the 1997 Miss Universe final in Hawaii.
Štrkulová’s participation in Miss World was a landmark achievement,as she was the first woman to represent Czechoslovakia in a major international beauty contest. While she considered the impact of her placement less transformative than it might be for contestants today, her success undoubtedly opened doors for future Czechoslovakian representatives.
