For the first time in Riga, the Defense Innovation Summit “Drone Summit 2025” will take place, bringing together more than 1,500 high -level political leaders, military experts, scientists and defense industry from 20 drone coalitions and other Allied countries, the Ministry of Defense said.

Also at 11:30 pm, the Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruda (P), the Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelman, the Minister of Belgium, Teo Franken, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Valery Churkin, and a press conference of British Armed Forces Minister Luke’s Polard Minister.

The drone summit will be a one -day event where the panel discussions between the defense industry, political leaders and researchers will take place on two stages and science and innovation to promote innovation and strengthen defense capabilities in the region.

The Defense Innovation Summit will be officially opened with a speech by Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (JV), after which the first panel discussion will take place on the stage of the military strategy- “AD HOC coalitions and military support mechanisms”.

In this panel discussion, the strengths and weaknesses of the coalition, as well as European readiness for new challenges, will be discussed by Sprud, Brekelman, Franken, Churkin and Polard.

Next, the military strategy on the stage will host a discussion on “Drones and Future of War” with the participation of National Armed Forces Commander Major General Kaspars Pudāns, Peter Pears, Head of Defense of the German Ministry of Defense, and Karl Larson, executive director of Defense Tech for Ukraine.

Experts will discuss the benefits and restrictions of drones in the battlefield and how their innovation affects combat operations, ethical considerations and the nature of the military service.

The military strategy on the stage will also be a discussion “Optimization of drones: Synergies between military, science and industry”, in which the negotiators will discuss trends that determine the future of drone use by emphasizing strategies for innovation, integration and operating efficiency. The discussion will be attended by Artis Pabriks, Chairman of the Military Technology, Drones and Robotics Association, Kusti Salm, CEO of Frankenburg Technologies, and Ron Rozendal, the Special Envoy of the Dutch Ministry of Defense.

Since its establishment, Latvia has sent about 5,000 different types and performance combat drones to Ukraine. In turn, the total support of the Member States of the entire coalition reached EUR 1.8 billion in the Ukrainian drone capabilities in 2024.

The coalition officially includes 18 Member States who have signed a letter of intent – Latvia, Great Britain, Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Estonia, Italy, New Zealand, Canada, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Ukraine, Germany and Sweden.
