USA This Friday, the destruction of all its chemical weapons reserves was completed, a milestone that according to the president, Joe Bidenbrings “one step closer to a world free from the horrors” of such weapons.
The last two deposits were in the pueblo County, in Coloradowhere there were some 2,600 tons of mustard gas in about 780,000 munitions, and in eastern Kentucky. The first destroyed his last weapons in June and the second, called Blue Grass Army Depot, it was terminated today.
The latter originally contained 523 tons of sarin, mustard and VX gas in shells and rockets.
“The United States has worked tirelessly for more than 30 years to eliminate its stockpile of chemical weapons. Today I am proud to announce that it has safely destroyed the last of the munitions in that stockpile,” Biden said in a statement.
The Democratic president stressed that successive administrations had determined that these weapons should neither be further developed nor deployed.
