BMW Berlin Marathon is Almost Here

The 2025 TCS Sydney Marathon is done, with impressive wins from Hailemaryam Kiros and Sifan Hassan. But don’t worry, marathon fans – the next Abbott World Marathon Major is right around the corner! This weekend, Germany’s capital will host its 51st annual BMW Berlin marathon.
It all started in 1974 with just 286 runners. The race has grown massively since then, becoming a huge athletic event for Berlin. This year? Expect a crowd.Organizers anticipate around 80,000 athletes will participate, including 55,146 runners, plus wheelchair athletes, hand cyclists, and skaters.
The Accomplished Men’s Field
Ready to compete for his frist major marathon title is Ethiopia’s Addisu Negera.He’s got a personal best of 2:03:48,so he’s definitely one to watch. But he isn’t the only threat.
Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, a legend in the marathon world, will also be running. He’s aiming for his fifth Berlin Marathon win – an astonishing feat! Kipchoge holds the official world record of 2:01:09, set in Berlin back in 2018. Can he break his own record? It’s possible.
Don’t count out Tadese Takele of Ethiopia, either. he’s got a personal best of 2:03:24 and recently won the Vienna Marathon in impressive fashion. It’s shaping up to be a really competitive race.
A Strong Women’s Lineup
The women’s race is looking equally exciting. Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia is the defending champion and boasts a personal best of 2:11:53.She’s a favorite, but she’ll face tough competition.
Keira Walsh of the United Kingdom is a rising star. She recently won the London Marathon and is eager to prove herself on the world stage.
Yalemzerf Yehualaw of Ethiopia is another strong contender. She’s known for her speed and endurance and could definitely challenge for the win. It’s going to be a thrilling race to watch!
