Troy Baker Wants to Develop His Own Video Game
Voice actor Troy Baker is taking steps toward creating his own video game, drawing inspiration from industry veterans he has worked with throughout his career. Known for roles such as Joel in The Last of Us, Sam Drake in Uncharted, and Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Baker has expressed interest in transitioning from voice acting to game development.
In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Baker cited Abubakar Salim—who voiced Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins and later founded Surgent Studios, releasing Tales of Kenzera: Zau—as a key influence. “I love Abu, I played the hell out of his games,” Baker said. “He is someone who has a deep passion for games, and has found a way to turn that into a great business endeavour for him.”
Baker also highlighted the impact of working with renowned developers including Ken Levine, Hideo Kojima, Neil Druckmann, Todd Howard, and Vince Zampella. “I’ve had an incredible opportunity working with the best in this industry, it’s insane,” he remarked. “I’ve worked with these people, and I’ve learned so much from them.”
He emphasized that his goal is not to replicate existing successes but to internalize their storytelling and design principles to craft original narratives. “What I am excited about doing is taking those tenets, taking those principles of wildly successful titles—not just in terms of sales and figures, but the stories that have defined the industry—and being able to innovate and replicate and emulate those processes and practices into the stories that I want to tell,” Baker stated.
Baker confirmed he is “beginning the conversations” about the story he wants to tell and who he wants to collaborate with. When asked about a timeline, he replied, “not rushed,” underscoring his commitment to quality over speed.
Beyond his voice acting work, Baker continues to stay active in the industry. He most recently voiced Jack Pepper in Mouse: P.I. For Hire (2026) and is involved in upcoming projects such as Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Levine’s Judas.
With over 430 voice-acting credits to his name, Baker’s move into development reflects a growing trend of performers leveraging their creative experience to shape games from the ground up. While no official announcement has been made regarding a studio or project title, his public statements signal a serious and deliberate step toward establishing himself as a creator in the gaming space.
