Turnstile Pays Homage to The Stone Roses with “I Wanna Be Adored” Cover
Turnstile has debuted a captivating cover of The Stone Roses’ 1989 hit “I Wanna Be Adored” as part of the Australian radio station Triple J’s renowned “Like A Version” series. The performance showcases the GRAMMY Award-winning band’s unique spin on the iconic indie track.
A Tribute to a Legend
Frontman Brendan Yates expressed his deep appreciation for the song, stating, “I love this song – it’s one of my favourite songs of all time. It’s unconventional and simple and exceptionally… just beautiful.”
The decision to cover “I Wanna Be Adored” also served as a tribute to the late Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, The Stone Roses’ bassist, who passed away last year. Guitarist Meg Mills highlighted the song’s iconic bassline and its significance, saying, “With the passing of Mani, it felt like a really appropriate time to kind of pay homage to him. Definitely as a Brit, Stone Roses is one of those bands that every kid that had any inkling towards anything alternative just knew from such an early age.” She further lauded The Stone Roses as “such an iconic band, and, in my opinion, probably the coolest of all the kind of Manchester bands coming out at that time.”
Blending Styles
Turnstile’s rendition begins with a delicate synth intro, gradually building into a powerfully atmospheric instrumental performance that blends their signature sound with the original’s dreamy quality. Rocksound describes the cover as “dreamy yet rocked-up.”
