Ukrainian Government reshuffle: Defense and Digital Conversion Ministers Step Down
Recent developments in Ukraine indicate a important reshuffling within the government, wiht both the Minister of Defense, Denis Shmyhal, and the minister of Digital Transformation, Mikhail Fedorov, submitting their resignations.Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, has confirmed that Parliament will soon address these requests.
Denis Shmyhal, who assumed the role of Minister of Defense in July 2025, previously served as Ukraine’s Prime Minister for over five years. Earlier in January, president Volodymyr zelenskyy proposed Shmyhal for the positions of Minister of Energy and First Deputy Prime Minister, signaling a planned transition in responsibilities.
Following this proclamation, President Zelenskyy nominated Mikhail Fedorov, the current Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation since 2019, to lead the Ministry of Defense. This proposed change reflects a potential shift in priorities as Ukraine continues to navigate ongoing challenges. The parliament’s consideration of these nominations will be a key step in determining the future leadership of these critical governmental departments.
