UPSC Civil Services Exam 2025: Rank 301 Controversy Resolved, Akanksha Singh of Ghazipur Confirmed

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has clarified a dispute surrounding the 301st rank in the Civil Services Examination 2025, confirming that Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, secured the position. The clarification comes after conflicting claims emerged from two candidates with the same name.

The controversy began after the UPSC declared the final results on March 6, 2026. Both Akanksha Singh from Ara, Bihar, and Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, asserted they had achieved the 301st rank.

Conflicting Claims and Investigations

Akanksha Singh from Ara, the granddaughter of Brahmeshwar Singh, founder of the banned Ranvir Sena militia, initially claimed the rank and shared an admit card as proof. But, discrepancies were found when the QR code on the admit card revealed a different roll number than the one associated with the 301st rank Times of India.

Meanwhile, Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, a practicing gynecologist at Patna AIIMS, alleged impersonation and presented documents supporting her claim India Today. She stated she had appeared for all stages of the examination with the same roll number.

UPSC Clarification

On Monday, March 9, 2026, the UPSC issued a press release confirming that Akanksha Singh, daughter of Ranjit Singh and Neelam Singh, from Village Abhaipur, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, with roll number 0856794, had indeed secured the 301st rank Press Information Bureau. The commission stated that its records show only one candidate achieved that rank.

The UPSC’s clarification effectively resolved the confusion and confirmed Akanksha Singh of Ghazipur as the rightful claimant to the 301st rank in the Civil Services Examination 2025 Hindustan Times.
