New Orleans Attack: Driver Carrying ISIS Flag Kills 15 in Year’s Eve Rampage

A US Army veteran drove a pickup truck bearing the Islamic State group’s flag into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Eve in New Orleans, killing at least 15 people before being shot dead by police. The FBI is investigating the deadly attack as a terrorist act and believes the driver acted with accomplices.

The incident unfolded on Bourbon Street, a popular tourist destination, early Wednesday morning. Witnesses described scenes of utter chaos as the truck, rented by the suspect, plowed into pedestrians, throwing people like rag dolls. Several improvised explosive devices, including pipe bombs concealed in coolers, were found in the truck.

Suspect Identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar

Federal authorities identified the driver as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US citizen and Army veteran from Texas. FBI officials said Jabbar had posted videos online expressing admiration for the Islamic State group and his desire to kill.
