Mazatlán Prepares for Flu Season with Expanded Vaccination Campaign

Mazatlán is taking a proactive approach to public health this winter season, launching a comprehensive campaign to combat the spread of influenza and COVID-19. Organized by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the initiative aims to increase vaccination rates and bolster community immunity as the colder months bring an increased risk of respiratory illnesses.

"The winter season naturally amplifies the risk of diseases like influenza and COVID-19," explains Nurse Valeria Monserrat Ramos Cordero, a dedicated health professional spearheading the campaign. "Our priority is to protect residents by providing convenient access to vaccinations at a crucial time."

Accessible and Convenient Vaccination

Running from October 2023 to March 2025, the vaccination drive operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. A dedicated module, easily accessible outside a prominent department store across from the Mazatlán Cathedral, serves as a central hub for residents to receive their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations free of charge.

“The process is designed to be as simple as possible,” Nurse Ramos Cordero emphasizes. “Residents need only present their voter ID card (INE) for registration. A national health card can also be used.”

Building Trust and Addressing Concerns

The campaign organizers recognize the importance of transparency and community engagement.

“Addressing any concerns or misconceptions surrounding vaccines is crucial,” Nurse Ramos Cordero stresses. “Regular health fairs, workshops, and open dialogue are essential to building trust and ensuring residents have accurate information.”

The positive response from Mazatlán residents has been encouraging, with a steady flow individuals taking advantage of the readily available vaccinations. The campaign’s success highlights the community’s commitment to preventive healthcare and well-being.

Looking Ahead

Organizers view this initiative as a crucial step towards fostering a culture of vaccination and long-term participation.

"A successful campaign like this not only improves our community’s health but also encourages sustained vaccination efforts in the future," Nurse Ramos Cordero concludes. "It’s a step towards building a healthier, more resilient Mazatlán."
