Large-Scale Ticket Inspection at Wormerveer Station Disrupts Train Travel
Wormerveer Station experienced significant disruptions on Thursday afternoon, March 6, 2026, as Dutch Railways (NS), the National Police, and Tribe Security conducted a large-scale ticket inspection campaign. The operation, which began around 4:00 PM and continued until 9:00 PM, involved temporarily halting almost all trains passing through the station to verify passenger tickets.
Operation Details
Approximately 68 trains, including intercity services, were scheduled to be checked during the five-hour operation. Around 40 inspectors and 10 security guards were deployed to the platforms, working in teams to board trains and inspect tickets as they arrived. Security personnel also checked passengers entering the platform and exiting trains.
To minimize disruption to train schedules, inspections were designed to be completed within two to four minutes per train. Trains already delayed were allowed to continue without inspection. Around 80 personnel were involved in the operation, including an assistant public prosecutor and officers from the Dutch Aliens Police. This marked the largest inspection of its kind to capture place in the Zaan region.
Reasons for the Inspection
Authorities indicated that the inspection at Wormerveer Station was not random. Both NS employees and the municipality of Zaanstad had reported incidents at and around the station, prompting the increased security measures. The station’s location also provided sufficient logistical space to accommodate the large-scale operation.
Follow-Up to Voorburg Inspection
This action followed a similar inspection conducted the previous day at Voorburg Station. The Voorburg inspection represented the first instance of NS checking nearly all passing trains within a defined timeframe, establishing a new method for ticket verification that may be implemented more frequently in the future.
