Chase Meyer No Longer with West Virginia Baseball
Morgantown, WV – West Virginia University baseball will continue its 2026 season without the services of right-handed pitcher Chase Meyer, head coach Steve Sabins announced Tuesday. Meyer, a junior, has been removed from the team’s roster.
Sabins’ Statement
“Junior right-handed pitcher Chase Meyer is no longer with our baseball program,” Sabins stated in a press release according to SI.com. “I want to thank Chase for his contributions the past three years to our team and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Meyer’s Career at WVU
Meyer concluded his time at West Virginia with an overall record of 11-3 and one save across 37 appearances, totaling 70.2 innings pitched and 96 strikeouts. He was a 2026 Preseason All-Big 12 First Team selection.
In 2025, Meyer led the Mountaineers in wins, going 9-2 with a 3.94 ERA over 48 innings pitched in 22 appearances, including three starts. He recorded 63 strikeouts and one save. WV MetroNews noted his strong performance that season.
Prior to 2025, as a freshman in 2024, Meyer made 13 appearances, including one start, finishing with a 1-1 record, an 8.38 ERA, and 28 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.
Early 2026 Season and Pro Potential
Meyer made two appearances for the Mountaineers in 2026, posting a 1-0 record with a 2.70 ERA and five strikeouts over 3.1 innings. He was considered West Virginia’s top pro prospect by D1 Baseball, ranked as the Big 12’s No. 7 pro prospect entering the season, and was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Second Team. 247Sports reported on his potential.
His final appearance came against Liberty, where he allowed one run on two walks and two hit batsmen over two innings. Sabins highlighted Meyer’s curveball as “the best out pitch arguably in the country.”
