LYSTA’s Next 20 Years: Accelerating Our Goal of Zero Culling

This year has flown by! From December 22nd to 25th,we’re spaying and neutering around 90 animals. I’ll be working as hard as I can for the rest of the week!

Today, we have an notable proclamation about the next 20 years of LYSTA.

in 2020, when we relocated the shelter, we set a goal: to be at the starting line of zero culling in Iwaki City. Our initial target for achieving zero culling was 2027.

As of the end of November this year, the number of animals culled in Iwaki City is down to just 1 animal, including an injured dog and cat!

Thank you so much for your support of injured and senior animals from the health center. We’re grateful to everyone who’s helped with supplies, funds, and volunteer work. I never imagined we could reduce the number of cullings to this extent so quickly.

Therefore, we’re moving the start of our zero-culling initiative forward by one year, aiming for zero culling – including injured animals – in Iwaki City for 10 years, starting in 2026.

We’ve come this far becuase the goverment has been focused on raising young cats – who make up the majority of euthanized animals nationwide – with milk and baby food, and finding them homes. This requires staff to take the babies home at night, so it takes real dedication.

Also, thanks to the kittens working hard at the health center, LYSTA can specialize in caring for seniors and injured animals.

I, the representative, am 46 years old. After 10 years of no culling, I’ll be 56.

To continue caring for the animals in our care for the rest of their lives…
