Presearch’s Doppelgänger Aims to Ethically Connect Fans with OnlyFans Creators

The challenge of discoverability on OnlyFans, a platform with 4 million creators, is prompting innovative solutions. Presearch, a decentralized search engine, has launched Doppelgänger, an image-based discovery tool within its NSFW “Spicy Mode,” designed to connect users with OnlyFans creators who resemble individuals they find attractive. This comes as creators express frustration with the platform’s limited search functionality.

The Problem with Discovery on OnlyFans

Alix Lynx, an OnlyFans creator with a combined 2 million followers across social media platforms, highlighted the difficulties creators face in gaining visibility on OnlyFans. She emphasized that success requires significant marketing efforts beyond simply joining the platform. “That’s the big misconception with OnlyFans—when creators join they suppose it’s going to be easy,” Lynx stated. The lack of a robust search feature on OnlyFans itself exacerbates this issue, hindering a level playing field for creators. OnlyFans limits its search feature as a safety precaution to prevent accidental exposure to unwanted content.

Doppelgänger: A Privacy-Focused Approach

Doppelgänger differentiates itself from traditional reverse image search tools by prioritizing privacy. According to Brenden Tacon, head of product and business development at Presearch, the tool does not scan the open web, collect personal information, or attempt to identify individuals. Instead, it returns visually similar public profiles based on image features. “We’re trying to offer a place where you might serendipitously become discovered,” Tacon explained. Presearch reports 300,000 daily active searches on its platform.

How Doppelgänger Works and its Limitations

Users upload an image, and Doppelgänger identifies OnlyFans creators with similar visual characteristics. However, initial testing by WIRED revealed that the AI currently performs better at finding matches for women than for men. For example, searches for Michael B. Jordan and Jeff Goldblum yielded suggestions that included female creators. The tool’s accuracy is an area for ongoing improvement.

Ethical Considerations and Future Development

Presearch emphasizes its commitment to ethical discovery, with guardrails in place to prevent tracking and ensure age-gating. Doppelgänger represents an early attempt to address the discoverability challenges faced by adult content creators while prioritizing user privacy. The tool’s development signals a growing recognition of the need for alternative search solutions within the creator economy.
