Luna Maya’s Harrowing River Scene in ‘Suzzanna: Santet Dosa di Atas Dosa’ Nearly Led to Disaster

Jakarta – Luna Maya faced a life-threatening situation while filming a scene for her latest horror film, Suzzanna: Santet Dosa di Atas Dosa. The incident occurred during the shooting of an intense river scene in the Pangandaran area of West Java, leaving the actress traumatized.

A Scene Gone Wrong

Maya, reprising her role as Suzzanna, was performing a demanding scene in a river when she nearly drowned. She described the experience as one of the most frightening moments of her life. The actress explained that the combination of heavy costume, a wig, and prosthetics significantly weighed her down in the water.

“I’m still traumatized by the river, but that’s a bit of my life and death experience, you could say that. If we wear full clothes, going into the water is hard, right? Plus wearing a wig, the wig is likewise because there is our hair inside. So the water load makes our bodies heavier,” Maya stated during the film’s press junket in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, as reported by detik.com.

No Stunt Double, Unexpected Currents

Maya chose to perform the scene herself, foregoing a stunt double. Initially, she underestimated the strength of the current beneath a small waterfall at the location. She anticipated a manageable situation, but quickly realized the danger when the powerful undercurrent caught her.

“Then when it was ‘Okay, okay, ready, okay’ like that, okay. Because there was a current, it came down like a small waterfall. What I didn’t expect was that it turned out that if it was a waterfall, there was a roll of water underneath it. It was a roll,” Maya recounted, according to Kompas.com.

A Struggle for Survival

The actress found herself struggling against the current, weighed down by her costume, wig, and facial prosthetics. She described being pulled under and tumbling in the water, fearing her clothes would become snagged on rocks.

“And I also didn’t expect that the wig, that dress, and that face would weigh me down in the water again. I was like being in a coil, reeling. It was there every second I was like… (silence),” she explained, as detailed in Media Indonesia.

Maya was submerged for approximately 30 seconds, battling the current before managing to surface and push herself to safety. She emphasized the difficulty of breathing with the prosthetic covering her nose.
