Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s chief operating officer, said the market has been reactive in ways that the company did not expect. He said the company is trying to figure out the right way to engage with partners in the ecosystem.

Following the keynote, Altman told reporters during a Q&A that generating revenue and working toward profitability are currently “not in his top 10 concerns.”

He said OpenAI will have to be profitable eventually, but that the company is in “a space of investment and growth.”

“We are confident we can build a very profitable model,” he said.

Altman made similar comments to CNBC in August, when he said he believes “the rational thing to do is to just be willing to run the loss for quite a while.”
