Spring Break 2026: Travel Trends and Destinations

As the weeks of Spring Break approach in 2026, travelers are making plans for both domestic and international getaways. AAA Travel data indicates a continued strong interest in traditional warm-weather destinations, alongside evolving preferences for cruise vacations and European city breaks.

Domestic Travel: Popular Destinations

Orlando, Florida, remains a top choice for Spring Break travelers, driven by its world-class theme parks and attractions. According to AAA rental car partner Hertz, Orlando is one of the most popular rental car destinations. Other leading domestic destinations include Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Tampa, all in Florida, capitalizing on the state’s reliably warm climate. Beyond Florida, Los Angeles and Phoenix are also seeing high demand for rental cars, indicating significant travel to the West Coast. The top states for bookings are Florida, California, Texas, Hawaii, and Arizona.

Flights and Costs

Flights to popular domestic Spring Break destinations are averaging around $815 for roundtrip tickets, representing a 2% increase compared to 2025. Despite the slight increase, domestic travel remains a popular option for families and students.

Cruising Continues to Rise

Ocean cruising is experiencing record growth, with AAA projecting 21.7 million Americans will take cruise vacations in 2026. Caribbean itineraries departing from Florida, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas are particularly popular choices for Spring Break travelers seeking a convenient and all-inclusive vacation experience.

International Options: Europe and Beyond

For those looking to travel further afield, European cities are attracting significant interest. Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, London, and Barcelona are among the top international destinations for Spring Break 2026. Flights to Caribbean and international destinations are slightly cheaper this year compared to 2025, averaging around $1,300 roundtrip.

Saving on Travel Costs

AAA members can save on fuel costs during Spring Break by signing up for Shell Fuel Rewards®. Members who register through April 30 will receive 35¢/gallon off their first fill at participating Shell stations, with all AAA Fuel Rewards members saving 10¢/gallon during that period.

Theme Park Experiences in Orlando

Orlando offers a wide range of theme park options, including Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld Orlando, LEGOLAND Florida, and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Special events, such as the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival (February 28 – May 27), add to the appeal of a Spring Break trip to Orlando.
