BYD Atto 1 Gains Traction in Indonesia as LCGC Sales Decline

Jakarta – The Indonesian automotive landscape is undergoing a shift, with the traditionally dominant Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) segment experiencing a decline in sales while compact electric vehicles, such as the BYD Atto 1, demonstrate positive growth. This trend signals a potential change in consumer preferences towards more modern and electrified mobility solutions.

BYD Atto 1 Sales Surge

Data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) reveals a significant increase in BYD Atto 1 sales. In January 2026, 3,361 units were sold, a figure that rose to 3,700 units in February of the same year. This represents a 10% month-over-month growth, indicating growing public interest in the electric vehicle.

LCGC Sales Experience a Downturn

Despite the Atto 1’s growth, LCGC vehicles still hold the larger overall monthly sales volume. However, the segment is facing challenges. The Honda Brio Satya, a leading LCGC model, recorded sales of 6,526 units between January and February 2026. This figure represents a decline from 3,430 units in January to 3,096 units in February.

Other LCGC models also reveal weaker performance compared to the Atto 1. Sales figures for January-February 2026 include 3,036 units for the Daihatsu Calya, 3,030 units for the Daihatsu Ayla, and 1,180 units for the Toyota Agya.

Significant Decline in Cumulative LCGC Sales

the LCGC segment experienced a substantial decline in the first two months of 2026. Cumulative sales reached 22,106 units, a decrease of 6,041 units compared to the 28,147 units sold during the same period in 2025. This represents a 21.46% decline, a significant figure for a segment traditionally focused on first-time car buyers.

Throughout 2025, LCGC vehicles distributed 122,686 units. However, distribution figures dropped to between 8,000 and 9,000 units per month in the latter half of the year, compared to an average of over 12,000 units per month in the first quarter.

Industry Experts Attribute Shift to EV Affordability

Jongkie Sugiarto, Chairman I of Gaikindo, attributes the decline in LCGC sales to the increasing affordability of electric vehicles. “Our LCGC is damaged, it has fallen by 37 percent. Given that now for IDR 200 million people can get an electric car with a good design and complete features,” Sugiarto stated, as reported by CNBC Indonesia.

Sugiarto further emphasized the continued potential of the affordable vehicle segment in Indonesia, acknowledging the inevitable shift towards electrification. “People now see choices. If the price difference is small but the technology is more advanced, of course they will switch,” he added.

BYD Atto 1 Pricing and Availability

The BYD Atto 1 was launched at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025 with a starting price of Rp 195 million for the Dynamic variant and Rp 235 million for the Premium variant. Republika reported that deliveries to consumers began in October 2025.
