It’s time to shake up your Christmas wine routine!
Every year, we tend to fall back on the same few bottles: Chablis, Mâcon, Rioja Reserva, Bordeaux, but why not try something new this year?
Looking for white wine pairings?
While Chardonnay is a classic, consider a Spanish Godello for a refreshing change. I tried a Chateau Thieuley Godello, a delightful match for smoked salmon.
Other great options include Viognier or Albariño from Spain.
Red Wine Recommendations for Christmas
Burgundy, Syrah from the Northern Rhône, or Gamay are all classic turkey companions. However, a Dão would be a fantastic choice too.
If you prefer a fuller-bodied red, look to Southern Rhône, Languedoc, or Australian Grenache-based red, it’s low in tannins and perfect with turkey.
Large Gatherings?
For a large group, the Lidl Grenache is excellent value. Dunnes Stores’ Cazal-Viel Saint Chinian, at €10, is a steal and goes beautifully with turkey.
