US Government Announces Operation Targeting Immigrants in Chicago
After repeated threats, the US government has announced an operation against immigrants in Chicago. The measure will be directed against “illegal criminal foreigners,” according to the Ministry of Homeland Security. A post from the Ministry on X mentioned a “lightning” mission. The US government has not yet provided further details.
Chicago’s Democratic mayor Brandon Johnson wrote on X that the city administration had not been informed by the US government about increased measures related to migration. The city continues to reject a militarized procedure without proper process.
The governor of the surrounding state of Illinois, JB Pritzker, criticized the announcement. he stated that Trump is “not about fighting crime,” and that “This requires support and coordination – but we haven’t seen anything about that in the past few weeks,” according to a post on X.
Trump Threatens Chicago with Deployment of National Guard
Prior to the Ministry of Homeland Security’s announcement, US President Donald Trump again complained about alleged crime in the city and claimed, without evidence, that around 50 people have been killed there in recent weeks. “we can move quickly and stop this madness,” Trump wrote. Statistics show a decline in murders in Chicago this year.
Trump has recently threatened to deploy the National Guard to Chicago, similar to actions taken in other cities.
