China Bans Nvidia RTX Pro 6000D Chips From Top Tech Companies
nvidia faces a new setback as Chinese regulators ban it’s products.
After overcoming a ban on China sales imposed by the trump administration, the tech giant now confronts a ban on its products by Chinese regulators.
China’s internet regulator, the Cyberspace Administration of china (CAC), ordered leading Chinese tech companies, including Bytedance and Alibaba, to halt testing and orders of Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D chips, as the Financial Times reported on wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Nvidia introduced the RTX Pro 6000D chip-a less advanced chip specifically designed for sale in China to comply with U.S.export control rules-earlier this year. These chips initially aimed to replace the H20, another lower-tech chip previously exclusive to China. The H20s recently received U.S. approval for resale, though shipments haven’t begun. China is also urging the U.S. government to authorize the sale of more advanced Blackwell chips.
This action marks the latest escalation in a deteriorating relationship between China and nvidia.
Last month, Chinese authorities began questioning and warning industry leaders like Tencent about their purchases of Nvidia’s H20 chips, according to Reuters.
“We can only be in service of a market if a country wants us to be,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated at a press conference on Wednesday, responding to a question about the China CAC. “I’m disappointed with what I see, but they have larger agendas to work out between China and the United States. And I’m patient about it. We’ll continue to be supportive of the Chinese government and Chinese companies as they wish.”
Nvidia remains entangled in the ongoing trade tensions between the two nations.
The Biden administration first implemented export restrictions on Nvidia.
