CJ Daniels Reacts to Being Drafted by Los Angeles Rams at No. 197

Miami wide receiver CJ Daniels expressed his excitement and gratitude after being selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the 197th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Speaking shortly after the selection, Daniels described the moment as a dream come true, emphasizing his long-standing connection with the Rams organization.

Daniels revealed that the Rams had been monitoring his progress for years, dating back to his time at Liberty University and LSU. “I understand the Rams, they’ve been following my game for a while since I’ve been at Liberty University and LSU,” he said. “So it’s really just a dream come true man. I really couldn’t see myself being a part of any other organization.”

Just minutes after being drafted, Daniels appeared in his introductory Zoom press conference wearing a hat featuring the Rams’ new logo, symbolizing his immediate embrace of the team. He called the experience surreal, stating, “Everything that I’ve ever wanted in my life just came to life.”

The Rams traded their 207th, 251st, and 252nd overall picks to the Philadelphia Eagles to move up ten spots and select Daniels at No. 197 in the sixth round. This move allowed Los Angeles to secure a receiver they had tracked extensively.

Daniels highlighted his familiarity with the Rams’ receiving corps, noting that he models his game—particularly his release techniques—after Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams. He similarly mentioned studying film of teammate Puka Nacua and expressed enthusiasm about learning from both veterans. He looked forward to working with quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Ty Simpson.

A six-year college veteran, Daniels transferred three times during his NCAA career, spending four seasons at Liberty, one at LSU, and his final year at Miami, where he helped the Hurricanes reach the national championship game in 2025. Last season with Miami, he recorded 50 receptions for 557 yards and seven touchdowns, serving as a favorite target of quarterback Carson Beck.

Prior to Miami, Daniels led Liberty in receiving in 2023 and earned second-team All-Conference USA honors, accumulating 1,067 yards that season. His journey through multiple programs has equipped him with adaptability, a trait he believes will aid his transition to the NFL.

The Rams used their early draft picks on a quarterback, tight end, and offensive tackle before addressing wide receiver in the sixth round. With Daniels, Los Angeles adds depth behind established receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, while also creating competition for roles occupied by players like Jordan Whittington and Konata Mumpfield.

For Daniels, joining a veteran-laden receiving room represents the ideal environment to grow. “Being part of a unit like that is the type of opportunity he’s dreamed about,” he affirmed, underscoring his readiness to contribute and learn from experienced teammates.
