For over eight years, a Coventry, Rhode Island resident has been generously dedicating his Sundays to sharing the joys of fishing with individuals of all ages.What began as a simple offer to assist a few local families has blossomed into a thriving community initiative focused on accessibility and outdoor engagement.
From Humble Beginnings to a Growing Movement
The programme, initially sparked by requests for guidance, quickly gained momentum as word spread. Recognizing a need within the community, the founder extended an open invitation to anyone interested in learning the art of angling. Every Sunday, from approximately the second week of April through October, a dedicated fishing station is established near Tiogue Lake, off Arnold road.
this isn’t merely a lesson; it’s a fully equipped experience.Participants are provided with everything necessary to get started – rods, reels, hooks, bobbers, sinkers, and bait – all at no cost. The initiative’s growth has been remarkable. What started with the donation of 35 fishing outfits in the first year has escalated to an remarkable 3,392 rods and tackle sets distributed to date.

The impetus behind this effort stems from a desire to support families where time or circumstances might limit opportunities for outdoor recreation. Many participants come from single-parent households or families with demanding schedules, leaving little room for introducing children to the rewarding pastime of fishing. However, the program’s impact extends beyond simply teaching a skill.
