Lunar Fresh Year 2026: Celebrations at Greenwich Peninsula and Beyond
As the Lunar New Year approaches on February 21, 2026, Londoners will have ample opportunities to celebrate the Year of the Horse. Greenwich Peninsula is set to host a vibrant, free, family-friendly event, alongside other festivities across the city.
Greenwich Peninsula Celebrations
Greenwich Peninsula will transform into a hub of cultural activity, welcoming visitors with dragon dances, street food, and a variety of cultural workshops. The celebrations will span Peninsula Square, Design District, Firepit Art Gallery and Studio, and Canteen Food Hall & Bar, offering a diverse range of performances, food, markets, and hands-on activities from noon to 5pm.
Highlights include dragon and lion dances, live drumming, and roaming performers. A special Henan heritage exhibition will also be on display at the Firepit Art Gallery & Studio. Laura Flanagan, director at Greenwich Peninsula, emphasized the event’s role in bringing the community together to enjoy live performances, food, and creative experiences.
What to Expect at Greenwich Peninsula
- Dragon Dance: Performances at 3:00pm – 3:15pm and 4:00pm – 4:15pm in the Design District.
- Lion Dance: Performances at 2:30pm – 2:45pm and 3:30pm – 3:45pm in the Design District.
- Live Music: DJ sets from LOOSE.fm throughout the day at Canteen Terrace & Barton Yard, Design District.
- Henan Heritage Exhibition: A special exhibition at Firepit Art Gallery & Studio celebrating the artistry and traditions of China’s Henan province.
Other Lunar New Year Events in London
Beyond Greenwich Peninsula, other areas of London will also be marking the Lunar New Year. Chinatown will host lion dancers on Saturday, followed by a parade on Sunday. The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich and the Museum of London Docklands will also hold free festivals.
