Gelsenkirchen, Germany – On Saturday morning, February 28, 2026, at approximately 3:40 a.m., a resident of Gelsenkirchen was the victim of a robbery on Bahnhofstrasse, according to a press release from the Gelsenkirchen Police.

Details of the Incident

The victim was initially approached by two unknown individuals who attempted to engage him in conversation and offered to sell him drugs. After declining their offer, the victim continued walking towards the Musiktheater. The two individuals then began to follow him.

The victim was again approached on Overwegstrasse, where he was asked to make a phone call. The situation escalated when the suspects pushed the victim against a wall and, threatening violence, demanded he unlock his cell phone and hand over his debit and credit cards. They then accessed his banking app and demanded his PIN.

The victim sustained injuries, including being struck multiple times in the face with the palm of a hand and fists, and kicked after falling to the ground. While one suspect remained with the victim, brandishing an emergency hammer, the other attempted to withdraw money from the victim’s account at a bank, but was unsuccessful.

The suspects ultimately fled the scene in the direction of Heinrich-König-Platz with the victim’s cell phone, debit card, and credit card.

  • Suspect 1: Male, approximately 180 cm (5’11”) tall, with long black hair and a gray sweater, wearing a black bomber jacket.
  • Suspect 2: Male, approximately 172 cm (5’8”) tall, with black hair and a full beard, wearing a black hooded jacket and black pants.
