Google Labs Welcomes ProducerAI, Ushering in a New Era of AI-Powered Music Creation

Google has expanded its foray into artificial intelligence-driven music creation with the acquisition of ProducerAI, a platform designed to help users generate and refine music using generative AI. ProducerAI is now available as part of the Google Labs suite of tools, as announced on February 24, 2026.

ProducerAI: A Collaborative Approach to Music Making

ProducerAI distinguishes itself as a “creative collaborator,” assisting users in songwriting, refinement, and the exploration of new musical ideas, according to a Google blog post. The platform leverages Google DeepMind’s Gemini, Lyria 3, Veo, and Nano Banana models to facilitate the creative process. The experience emphasizes the joy of music creation alongside the final results.

From Riffusion to Google Labs

ProducerAI evolved from Riffusion, an earlier AI music-making tool launched in July 2025 that generated audio from images using a diffusion-based machine learning technique. Riffusion was initially a hobby project by co-founders Seth Forsgren and Hayk Martiros, gaining viral popularity beginning in 2022 before being developed into a full platform.

Lyria 3 Integration and Future Capabilities

The acquisition follows Google’s recent launch of its AI music model, Lyria 3, as part of the Gemini suite. Lyria 3 is Google’s most advanced music generation model to date, capable of creating 30-second tracks from text or image prompts in beta. ProducerAI will utilize Lyria 3’s technology to enable users to interact with an AI agent for sound generation, track remixing, and lyric creation.

A key feature highlighted by Google is the granular control offered through tools like Spaces, which allows users to create entirely new instruments based on text prompts. The Verge reports that ProducerAI allows users to “talk to this producer like you would a Gemini model, ask questions, and learn about a new genre.”

Industry Endorsement and Team Transition

ProducerAI has garnered support from prominent musicians, including The Chainsmokers, Lecrae, and slenderbodies. Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers stated the platform is “truly crafted around the musician’s experience,” recognizing the founders’ technical expertise and understanding of the creative process. TechCrunch notes that the platform is “backed by The Chainsmokers.”

All ProducerAI employees will transition to Google Labs and Google DeepMind to continue developing the company’s AI music tools, according to a LinkedIn post by ProducerAI employee Kendall Rankin.

SynthID Watermarking for AI-Generated Content

Google has implemented SynthID, an imperceptible watermark, to identify content generated by ProducerAI, ensuring transparency regarding the origin of the music. Google’s blog states that all outputs from ProducerAI are embedded with this watermark.
