Teenager Jailed for Snapchat Hack and Intimate Image Threat

A 19-year-traditional man from Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, has received a two-year community order after hacking a woman’s Snapchat account and threatening to share private images. The incident, which occurred in September 2024 when the perpetrator was 17, involved accessing intimate photographs and sending threatening messages to the victim.

Details of the Offense

Nottingham Crown Court heard that Nathan Raynor messaged the victim, a stranger, saying, “I want your body, you are amazing.” He gained access to the “My Eyes Only” section of her Snapchat account, screenshotting intimate images and threatening to distribute them. Raynor also reportedly asked about the chances of encountering her at her workplace, knowing her employment location.

The victim contacted police after noticing unauthorized attempts to change her Snapchat password and the unsolicited messages from Raynor. She described feeling “scared and vulnerable” as a result of the threats, particularly after learning Raynor knew where she worked.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Raynor pleaded guilty to causing a computer to enable unauthorized access to a program and threatening to share photographs or film of a person in an intimate state. A charge of blackmail was dropped.

Judge Michael Auty KC described the offense as “remarkably mean” and causing “massive amount of distress.” He acknowledged that Raynor was 17 at the time of the offense and could have received a referral order had he been dealt with as a youth. However, he imposed a two-year community order, including 150 hours of unpaid work and 25 rehabilitation days.

“This is, Mr Raynor, your one and only chance,” the judge stated.

Impact and Legal Perspective

Prosecutor Tony Stanford emphasized the real-world impact of this “digital offence,” highlighting its intrusive effect on the victim’s life. Mitigating, Andrew Wesley, stated that Raynor fully appreciated the harm caused and had ceased the offending after a short period, expressing his potential to be a productive member of society.
