Lidl and Ignitis ON Expand EV Charging Network Across Latvia
Lidl Latvia is partnering with Ignitis ON to significantly expand the availability of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country. The collaboration will bring EV charging to all Lidl stores in Latvia, building upon an initial pilot program at one location. This expansion aims to support the growth of electromobility by providing convenient and accessible charging options for EV drivers.
Expanding Charging Infrastructure
Currently, Ignitis ON operates over 55 EV charging points in Riga and other regions of Latvia. Ignitis ON has been actively opening new charging stations throughout the year.
Under the agreement, Lidl will provide the infrastructure and technical maintenance for the charging stations, while Ignitis ON will manage the payment processing and customer service. This division of responsibilities leverages Ignitis ON’s expertise in billing and data management, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience for EV drivers.
Commitment to Sustainability and Customer Convenience
“The availability of charging infrastructure in places where people shop and move on a daily basis is an essential prerequisite for the development of electromobility,” said Māris Sīklis, electromobility manager at Ignitis ON Latvia. “Cooperation with Lidl Latvia allows us to purposefully expand the quick charging network throughout the country and provide a simple, reliable and high-quality service to electric car users.”
Artūrs Hirkovskis, Head of the Construction Department of Lidl in the Baltic States, stated that offering EV charging stations at Lidl stores aligns with the company’s long-term commitment to environmentally friendly solutions and customer convenience. He added that the charging service will utilize green electricity produced in Latvia.
Charging Station Details and Pricing
Each Lidl location will be equipped with one charging station featuring two ports, enabling simultaneous charging of two vehicles using both DC and AC connectors. Pricing is tiered based on the connector’s maximum capacity:
- AC charging (up to 22 kW): 0.27 EUR/kWh
- DC charging (45–60 kW): 0.33 EUR/kWh
Billing is processed through the Ignitis ON mobile app or other compatible charging apps after each session.
