iOS 26.4 Fixes Infamous Keyboard Issues, But Is It Enough?
Apple has released iOS 26.4 for iPhones (and corresponding updates for iPadOS, macOS Tahoe, watchOS, visionOS, and tvOS), addressing a long-standing complaint among users: keyboard accuracy. While the update includes eight new emoji – orca, ballet dancer, distorted face, treasure chest, trombone, Sasquatch, landslide, and fight cloud – and Apple Intelligence features like “Playlist Playground,” the keyboard fix is arguably the most anticipated improvement.
Users experiencing increased typos since iOS 26 are encouraged to update their devices. The process involves navigating to Settings, then General, and finally Software Update. As with any software update, backing up your iPhone beforehand is recommended.

Does the Fix Actually Work?
Early reports suggest the update does improve keyboard performance. One user testing the update on an iPhone 16 Pro noted reduced lag between key presses and improved autocorrect accuracy, minimizing irrelevant word suggestions.1 Gizmodo’s Kyle Barr, testing on an iPhone 14 Pro, found that texting “felt better” after installing the update.1
The issues with the iPhone keyboard have been widely documented, including a YouTube video from October demonstrating the keyboard failing to register correct letters even when tapped accurately.2 The video, recorded at 120 frames per second, visually confirmed the software’s inability to consistently register keystrokes.
Looking Ahead to iOS 27
This fix is a welcome improvement for Apple’s user base. Further software enhancements are expected in iOS 27, anticipated to be unveiled at WWDC 2026 on June 8.3
