Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Massachusetts: Snow, Ice, and Rain Expected
A winter weather advisory is in effect for several counties in Massachusetts as a weather system brings a mix of snow, ice, and rain to the region. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, covers parts of Berkshire, Franklin, Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Hampshire, and Hampden counties from noon on Tuesday, March 3rd, through 7 a.m. Wednesday, March 4th, 2026.
What to Expect
Snow is anticipated to begin during the early afternoon, transitioning to rain and freezing rain overnight. A coating to 2 inches of snow is forecast for areas closer to Boston, along the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90), and north of the city. Higher elevations could see up to 3 inches of snowfall. South of Boston, only a light coating of snow is expected.
Icy Conditions Possible
Central and northern Massachusetts, as well as southern New Hampshire, will experience temperatures around freezing, increasing the risk of icy travel conditions. The National Weather Service predicts a trace up to a tenth of an inch of ice north and west of Interstate 95. The Massachusetts Turnpike, a 138.1-mile controlled-access toll road concurrent with Interstate 90, may be affected by these conditions.
Travel Impacts
The National Weather Service warns that slippery road conditions are likely, potentially impacting both the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and allow for extra travel time.
