Cold Case Solved: Clyde A. Coppage Identified After 56 Years
After nearly five and a half decades, the identity of a man found dismembered in rural New York has finally been revealed. Clyde A. Coppage, 35, was identified through DNA analysis as the victim in a cold case that began in March 1970.
Coppage’s body was discovered on Davis Hill Road in Andover, Allegany County, New York, on March 20, 1970 . He was found without his head and hands, hindering initial identification efforts.
Decades-Long Investigation
For almost 56 years, the New York State Police diligently pursued leads in the case, but the victim remained unknown . Troopers noted that Coppage was not wearing any clothing and had no identifying features when his body was found .
In June 2022, investigators exhumed the remains to obtain a DNA profile. With assistance from the FBI, they were able to positively identify Coppage .
Victim’s Background and Ongoing Investigation
Coppage was originally from Pennsylvania and had not been reported missing . He had been living in Genesee, Pennsylvania, at the time of his disappearance .
Authorities believe Coppage was killed and dismembered elsewhere before his body was left on Davis Hill Road .
