Marvel’s Blade reboot has once again hit a snag, losing its slated 2025 release date. This delay marks another setback for the highly anticipated film, which was first announced back in 2019.

A History of Delays

The journey to bring the Daywalker to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been anything but smooth. Initially planned for November 7, 2025, the film has now been removed from Disney’s release schedule. Even before this latest setback, the project has faced numerous challenges:

  • 2021: Stacy Osei-Kuffour was hired to write the script, and Bassam Tariq was chosen to direct.
  • September 2022: Tariq departed the project due to scheduling conflicts and creative differences.
  • November 2022: Yann Demange was brought in to direct, and Michael Starrbury was tasked with rewriting the script.
  • November 2023: Michael Green was hired to write a brand new script.
  • June 2024: Demange also exited the project.

These creative changes, coupled with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 writers’ strike, have significantly lengthened the film’s development process.

Adding to the complexities, there are reports that star Mahershala Ali is reportedly frustrated with the delays.

A Long Road Ahead

While Marvel Studios aims to deliver a high-quality film, the numerous changes and delays raise concerns about the project’s overall vision. The question remains: can Marvel find the right creative team and navigate these challenges to deliver a compelling Blade reboot that lives up to expectations?
