Fires, burned vehicles, riots and clashes with the police. Anger once again roams the neighborhoods on the outskirts of Paris. The death of a 17-year-old boy shot by an agent when he tried to escape at a control in Nanterre, a town on the outskirts, has caused altercations at different points of the call suburb. The night ended with more than 40 burned vehicles, 24 injured policemen and about thirty arrests, as confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior.
The events occurred on Tuesday morning in Nanterre, in the Paris region, and were recorded by a witness who was a short distance away. the victim is Naël, a 17-year-old boy with a police record and who was driving without a license.
The video shows how his car is stopped by a couple of policemen. One of the agents points his gun at the minor next to the driver’s window while the other talks to the young man. Apparently it starts without obeying them. The shot occurs at the moment when the car is accelerating.
The 38-year-old agent is already in custody and an investigation has been opened for voluntary homicide committed by a person in charge of public authority.
“We have all seen those extremely shocking images“, has admitted the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who has called for calm and has confirmed that the agent is in police custody. The minister has canceled the trips he had planned today.
