# Mitch Hay Called Up to New Zealand Test Squad

New Zealand have called up wicketkeeper-batter Mitch Hay to thier Test squad for the second Test against West Indies, beginning December 10th at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. This follows an injury to Tom Blundell, who has been ruled out of the match.

Hay,25,has represented New Zealand in 19 white-ball internationals but is yet to earn a Test cap. he boasts a strong first-class record, having scored 1888 runs in 47 innings at an average of 49.68. He is currently playing for Canterbury in the Plunket Shield against Central Districts in Napier, and will join the New Zealand team in Wellington ahead of the second Test.

New Zealand are also monitoring the fitness of seam-bowling allrounder Nathan Smith, who was unable to bowl or field on Friday due to a side complaint. The team is already without Daryl Mitchell, who remains unavailable due to a groin injury.

Hay holds a New Zealand record for most dismissals in a T20I innings, having effected six dismissals against Sri lanka in Dambulla last November. He has also gained experience through A tours to Bangladesh, South Africa, and a training stint at the chennai Super Kings Academy in India.

Jesse Frew will replace Hay in the Canterbury lineup for the final two days of their Plunket Shield match. During the first Test, Tom Latham fulfilled both captaincy and keeping duties in Blundell’s absence, taking four catches in West Indies’ first innings.
