OJK Joins Global Asia Insurance Partnership to Enhance Insurance Capacity in Asia
The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) has officially joined the Global Asia Insurance Partnership (GAIP), a platform dedicated to transforming the insurance industry in the Asian region. This key development signals OJK’s commitment to strengthening insurance capacity, bridging protection gaps, and tackling crucial challenges facing the sector.
Speaking at the GAIP Summit in Singapore, Ogi Prastomiyono, Executive Head of Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Supervision at OJK, emphasized the organization’s dedication to advancing insurance in Asia. “Through this membership, we are committed to enhancing insurance capacity in the Asian region, narrowing protection gaps, supporting innovative solutions in the insurance sector, and collectively addressing various business challenges such as climate risks, digital transformation, and financial inclusion,” he stated.
GAIP: A Platform for Collaboration and Innovation
GAIP brings together regulators, industry leaders, academics, and international organizations with a shared vision for a robust and inclusive insurance sector in Asia. With OJK’s addition, GAIP now represents 11 influential regulators from across the region, including Australia, Brunei, Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
One of GAIP’s primary goals is to address the significant protection gaps prevalent in Asia. This is especially critical given the growing threat of climate change, natural disasters, and socioeconomic risks that disproportionately impact populations in the region. OJK expressed its commitment to actively contribute to GAIP’s initiatives, particularly in developing policies and implementing best practices to bridge these gaps.
OJK’s Contributions to GAIP
OJK plans to actively engage with various pillars of the GAIP initiative, including:
- The Living Lab: Focused on research and analysis of current issues in the insurance industry.
- The Policy Think Tank: Providing a platform for regulators, industries, and academics to share policy inputs.
- The Talent Development: Supporting the development of talent in the insurance sector.
“Collaboration is key to developing a sustainable insurance sector, and GAIP is the platform formed to realize this collaboration,” affirmed Ogi.
Strengthening Collective Efforts
GAIP warmly welcomes OJK, acknowledging its valuable contribution to regional cooperation. The organization believes that OJK’s membership will significantly enhance joint efforts in addressing the increasingly complex challenges posed by digitization, climate change, and global economic dynamics.
