OpenAI too Implement Age Verification for ChatGPT,Including ID Checks

OpenAI announced plans to implement new security features that will differentiate the experience for adolescent and adult users of ChatGPT. The chatbot developer is preparing a system to identify user age to prevent privacy issues and enhance user safety.

In some cases, users may be asked to share identification, such as a national ID card, to verify they are at least 18 years old.

“In some cases or countries, we might also ask for an identification card. We certainly know this is a privacy compromise for adults, but we are sure this is a commensurate compensation,” saeid OpenAI founder and CEO Sam Altman in an announcement on the company’s official website.

openai introduced parental controls for ChatGPT in early September. The company is now completing these controls with age verification to further enhance the chatbot’s safety.

Along with age verification,ChatGPT will also have specific rules for teen users,those aged 13 and over. Details of these rules have not yet been fully disclosed.

“For exmaple, ChatGPT will be trained not to engage in flirtatious conversations if asked or to discuss suicide or self-harm, even in the context of creative writng,” Altman said.

“And if a user under 18 expresses suicidal thoughts, we will attempt to contact their parents. If we cannot, we will contact authorities when there is an imminent danger,” Altman continued.

Though, flirtatious chat responses from ChatGPT may still be possible.
